You can check out my review of the first book The Esper Files here.

The Esper Files: The Sky Cult is the second book in a science-fiction steampunk series. I enjoyed the first book so I was hoping to like this one too and I was not disappointed. In fact, I was in for a surprise.

The book opens with a very exciting scene. Freya has joined the Institute and she and Nathan seem to have become quite a team. The writing of this book was still simple but it was more fluid than the first one.

The plot of this book is extremely different from the first one. It was twisted and unpredictable. There is a lot of action and not a single dull moment. The concept was very original and I loved the steampunk bits. The plot was very well structured and the pacing was perfect.

I liked that there were many new characters or rather, villains in this book. They were all very unique and showed more of the power of Espers. I liked that we see more of James in this book and Freya’s role becomes more important. We see less of Nathan but I liked how the plot ultimately circles back to him.

The ending was amazing and action-filled. I liked how it wraps up everything but also sets the stone for more things to come. I loved this book more than the first one. This book is, no doubt, one of the best sequels I have ever read.

  1. You got me wanting to read this series! Once I finish up the series I’m reading right now, I’ll check if my school library has the book(prolly won’t tho), and if not I’ll get it delivered to my Kindle 😀
