It’s easy to feel daunted by life circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and by the personal, professional, and financial challenges that are arising from it. Unhealthy levels of stress have become widespread, resulting in physical and emotional health problems such as impaired immunity, weight problems, migraines, insomnia, hypertension, anxiety, irritability, and low mood.

This book introduces a highly effective approach that helps you trade tension, fear, anxiety, anger, and sadness for love, appreciation, gratitude, and enthusiasm, even under pressure.

Practicing these techniques can help you:

  • Deal with challenges and stress effectively.
  • Improve relationships at work and at home.
  • Develop more resilience and resist burnout and extreme stress.
  • Improve your well-being, health, and performance, even during crisis, challenges, or continual change.

You’ll notice a difference within days.

Over decades of clinical experience as a family doctor, integrated physician and resilience trainer, Dr. Gruenewald has seen the lives of his patients and clients enhanced by regular practice of these simple techniques. Dedicating just a short time each day to one or two of these exercises can have surprising benefits and lead to greater fulfillment in every realm of life.

This book is an essential read for everyone who wants to take hold of their physical and emotional health and their destiny in challenging times.

My Thoughts

Manifesting Your Best Future Self: Developing Health, Happiness and Success by Peter Gruenewald is a health and well-being book and can be put under the category of “self-improvement.” The book is not exactly about the law of attraction, as the title may suggest, because of the term ‘manifesting’. It teaches us how to reach and, more importantly, sustain a state of physical and mental well-being. The short book is a guide on building resilience and not just in a “Be tough” way. It is about building adaptive resilience for the long-term to help us deal with tough times, stress, unforeseen changes in life, etc.

The book is more scientific in its writing style than most self-improvement books. It gives advice by explaining how our minds work. I liked the parts where the author gives evidence from neurobiological research. Some people may find it hard to get into the book or may find it confusing because of it being heavily laden with research. However, the author does explain all concepts in a simple manner.

The book has a strong focus on self-awareness. It emphasizes on understanding your emotions and learning how to deal with them. That is something I personally constantly try to do. The book then goes on to talk about various meditative and breathing techniques. There are proper step-by-step guidelines on how to follow them. It also gives instances of people from real-life who have benefitted from these exercises.

The narrative tone of the book is simple and straight-forward and the writing style is a bit bland, making it not a very engaging read.

I would recommend this book to all those who want to improve their lifestyle and are looking for a quick book to read for some information and exercises regarding it.
