As if their situation wasn’t complicated enough, Anuradha’s past resurfaces to create problems for both of them.

I was skeptical to read a book that had infidelity in it but I still went ahead as I was interested to see how it would play out. I definitely wasn’t expecting what I got.

The book starts with a thrilling scene. However, what is revealed in the beginning only comes into the book more than halfway through. Also, we hear Dhruv talking to himself and referring to the ‘pebbles’ in his brain speaking to him. I found this very very stupid.

We are then taken to the time when Dhruv meets Anuradha for the first time. Everything happens very fast and they are suddenly declaring their love for each other. We don’t get to see how both of them actually grew to care for each other. The book had all the cliche things that bad romance novels do, from instant-love to awkward intimate scenes. The book did radiate a dark vibe from it like thrillers usually do. It shifts between different timelines. One thing I enjoyed was the Gurgaon setting.

I did not like the writing of this book at all. It was well edited but even then I couldn’t deal with the writing style. There was no flow and the characters’ inner dialogue was very badly delivered.

Almost all the characters in this book are terrible people. Anuradha doesn’t feel any remorse in having an affair with a married man. Dhruv has a loving wife and kids and he wrecks that in his desire for Anuradha. I couldn’t understand their love for each other as it was very sudden. I couldn’t root for them at all. We also read the story from Sid’s perspective who is Anuradha’s ex. He is an even worse human being and I didn’t see why Anuradha loved him.

The thriller aspect of this book was not totally bad and that is why I’ve given it two stars. It did hold my attention towards the end. I’m glad that the book was short and wasn’t unnecessarily stretched out. I also liked how the book ended.

Overall, this book was not enjoyable for me. It had no meaning and it didn’t entertain me either. It may appeal to some readers who are looking for a quick and dramatic read.

“I received a copy of this book from Writersmelon in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.”

Add this book on Goodreads Buy this book on Amazon Genre: Romantic Thriller Publisher: Penguin Random House India Release Date: September 18, 2017 Pages: 240 Format: Paperback My Rating: 2 stars

Continue reading ➞ You Never Know by Akash Verma (Book Review)

[3
99,132,228,237,385,389,390,392,503,508
post-10641","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-book-reviews","tag-books","tag-contemporary-romance","tag-indian-book","tag-indian-romance","tag-reviews","tag-romance","tag-romance-book","tag-romantic-thriller","tag-writersmelon","tag-you-never-know
https://travellingthroughwords.com/index.php/2017/08/01/messed-up-but-all-for-love-by-arvind-parashar-book-review/
Messed Up!
