It explores the themes of love, life, grief, depression, self-actualization and personal growth through the lens of an introvert who uses writing as a preferred way of communicating with mankind. The vignettes are divided into sections of loving, losing, hurting, surviving, conquering, on living today and on writing. Coffee, the ultimate companion, represents the breaks we take from experiencing life to write about it.

My Review

Coffee and Ordinary Life by Mitali Meelan is a small collection of poetry by the author. It is a very short read and well-suited to read before bed or when you just want to relax.

In the foreword, which I really liked, the author gives an insight on about this books, what coffee represents for her and the full meaning of the name of the book. I liked her take on coffee as a companion and a metaphor.

There are very short poems. All of them are about different emotions. Some of them are quite meaningful and some of them felt like I already know and were too short. There were some that were very relatable. Overall, this book is an enjoyable read.

If you’re a fan of Rupi Kaur’s Milk and Honey or just want to read a nice book, I recommend this.

Thanks to the author for a review copy of this book.
