It is set during the Cold War and the plot spans fifty years. The book starts in Berlin where the protagonist Joe Lambert fails to complete an operation by the SIS. He then tells us how he got employed in the Secret Service, and we continue with his journey from then on.

The book is very detailed in the beginning and reads more like an essay than a story. It takes a while but the pace picks up soon enough.

Through this book, we learn about the operations and activities of the SS. The book takes the character through various places including time in Indonesia, Washington, and Delhi. I was especially interested by his time in Delhi! It was very interesting to read about the life of a spy and the hardships one faces with such a job. We also read about Joe’s relationships with a few women, some of them being very heartbreaking. He feared of becoming the lone wolf at cover.

The writing of this book is quite formal but really good and refreshing change from other books. I found a lack of excitement and thrill in this book. However, the ending was very thrilling!

I really enjoyed this book in-spite of it being a bit monotonous in some places. People interested in books about secret organizations will really enjoy it. I recommend this book if you’re looking for something different.

Find me on Instagram | Twitter | Goodreads

Add the book on Goodreads Buy on Amazon Pages: 498 Publication Date: May 22, 2018 Source: Review Copy My Rating: 3.5 stars

Continue reading ➞ The Lone Wolf at Cover by John Michell (Book Review)

[3
99,413
post-11851","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-book-reviews","tag-books","tag-spy-thriller
https://travellingthroughwords.com/index.php/2021/05/03/from-russia-with-love-by-ian-fleming-book-review/
Blurb from Goodreads Ian Fleming’s fifth James Bond novel.James Bond is marked for death by the Soviet counterintelligence agency SMERSH in Ian Fleming’s masterful spy thriller.
