Then several people wolf-whistled and there was an outbreak of nervous giggling. Harry looked over the top of Ginny\u2019s head to see Dean Thomas holding a shattered glass in his hand, and Romilda Vane looking as though she might throw something. Hermione was beaming, but Harry\u2019s eyes sought Ron. At last he found him, still clutching the Cup and wearing an expression appropriate to having been clubbed over the head. For a fraction of a second they looked at each other, then Ron gave a tiny jerk of the head that Harry understood to mean, Well \u2014 if you must. The creature in his chest roaring in triumph, he grinned down at Ginny and gestured wordlessly out of the portrait hole. A long walk in the grounds seemed indicated, during which \u2014 if they had time \u2014 they might discuss the match.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAnd Harry saw very clearly as he sat there under the hot sun how people who cared about him had stood in front of him one by one, his mother, his father, his godfather, and finally Dumbledore, all determined to protect him; but now that was over. He could not let anybody else stand between him and Voldemort; he must abandon forever the illusion he ought to have lost at the age of one, that the shelter of a parent\u2019s arms meant that nothing could hurt him. To Harry’s intense embarrassment, he suddenly realized that Dumbledore’s bright blue eyes looked rather watery, and stared hastily at his own knee. When Dumbledore spoke, however, his voice was quite steady. <\/strong>

\n“What?”<\/strong>
\n“At your Aunt and Uncle’s house,” said Ron, “And then we’ll go with you wherever you’re going.”<\/strong>
\n“No-” said Harry quickly; he hadn’t counted on this, he had meant them to understand that he was undertaking the most dangerous journey alone. <\/strong>
\n“You said it once before,” said Hermione quickly, “that there was time to turn back if we wanted to. We’ve had time, haven’t we? We’re with you whatever happens.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n
\n“It’s different,” said Lupin, barely moving his lips and looking suddenly tense. “Bill will not be a full werewolf. The cases are completely-” <\/strong>
\n“But I don’t care either, I don’t care!” said Tonks, seizing the front of Lupin’s robes and shaking them. “I’ve told you a million times….”<\/strong>
\nAnd the meaning of Tonk’s Patronus and her mouse-colored hair, and the reason she had come running to find Dumbledore when she had heard a rumor someone had been attacked by Greyback, all suddenly became clear to Harry; it had not been Sirius that Tonks had fallen in love with after all. <\/strong>
\n“And I’ve told you a million times,” said Lupin, refusing to meet her eyes, staring at the floor, “that I am too old for you, too poor….too dangerous….”<\/strong>
\n“I’ve said all along you’re taking a ridiculous line on this, Remus,” said Mrs. Weasley over Fleur’s shoulder as she patted her on the back. <\/strong>
\n“I am not being ridiculous,” said Lupin steadily. “Tonks deserves somebody young and whole.” <\/strong>
\n“But she wants you,” said Mr. Weasley, with a small smile. “And after all, Remus, young and whole men do not necessarily remain so.” <\/strong>
\nHe gestured sadly at his son, lying between them. <\/strong>
\n“This is….not the moment to discuss it,” said Lupin, avoiding everybody’s eyes as he looked around distractedly. “Dumbledore is dead….”<\/strong>
\n“Dumbledore would have been happier than anybody to think that there was a little more love in the world,” said Professor McGonagall curtly…\u201d <\/strong>
