Waiting For Regina<\/em>\u00a0follows the story of a young girl called\u00a0Mispha, a dark girl from a Haitian-Jamaican black family, and her friend Regina from the time they are in high school to adulthood. It is described as a coming-of-age story and is built around the theme of racism.<\/p>\nThe book begins with the narrator telling us about\u00a0some atrocious things happening around the world. The rest of the book is written in the form of a letter from Mispha, who is now an adult, to her friend Regina while narrating their time in high school.<\/p>\n
Mispha relates instances of when she is teased because of her skin colour by her peers. It was very saddening and on some levels, i could relate too. This book touches the issues of colorism and racism in the world deeply.\u00a0It talks about some very real issues. The book also shows everyone has different opinions and theories about things.<\/p>\n
The writing was\u00a0good but not something that I particularly enjoy. It didn’t flow well and was very formal. Writing is one of the most important parts of a book for me and the writing of this book just didn’t fit well with the story.<\/p>\n
This book had some great characters. I loved Miss Ollie. She was a wonderful woman. She was selfless in her love for the girls. She lifted them up and helped them with everything. We really need more people like her in our society. The book showed that people like her exist- who are ready to stand up for other people to whom society is unfair. Her relationship with Mispha and Regina was very sweet.<\/p>\n
I also loved the friendship between Mispha, Regina and Sally. It was very innocent and pure, The girl were very young but they faced harsh things and they had worldy opinions and were also very intelligent.<\/p>\n
Mispha’s parents were amazing.\u00a0They were kind, supportive and they taught Mispha never to be ashamed of who she was . They were great\u00a0people who beloved in what was right and truly supported their children. Sally’s parents weren’t ideal. They were flawed but\u00a0realistic.<\/p>\n
I learned\u00a0a lot from Mispha and I wish to be as brave as her. Mispha and Regina both\u00a0were pure, gentle souls who aspired to make the world a better place.<\/p>\n
This book talks about\u00a0racism very emotional way. It is very sad and cruel but also enlightening.<\/p>\n
There are lots of friendships in this book which is one of its main themes. It also shows the pain of losing a friend, the importance of family and friends and how their love can help us overcome all the unfairness of society. It also\u00a0portrays a great student-teacher relationship. Mispha and Regina shared a beautiful bond. Sally’s tale was very sad and but\u00a0realistic.<\/p>\n
This book gives a simple \u00a0message, yet one which is very hard to accomplish. Don’t discriminate people on the colour of their skin. We are all different, but also the same as we are all creations of nature.<\/p>\n
This book gives hope us for a better world\u00a0and i applaud the author in taking a step towards writing\u00a0it.\u00a0It saddened me and warmed my heart at the same time. It is very inspiring and I highly suggest people to read it.<\/p>\n
I also think the writing and narration of this book could be a lot better with some editing.<\/p>\n
Waiting For Regina is a\u00a0beautiful and unique story.<\/div>\n
