Read the author’s guest post – I Can Get Paid to Read Books?
Paid To Proofread by Suzanne Gilad is a comprehensive guide to start a freelance career in proofreading.
This book caters to many types of people including those who love reading books and want to earn money from it, as well as those who are looking for a new career option or an additional source of income even if they are not voracious readers yet.
The book briefly explains the stages of production involved in creating a book in a simple manner and tells where the job of a proofreader fits in. The author tells us lots of different ways to get work if you’re willing to put in the effort. There were many ways I had never thought of. The book explains proofreading symbols used on hard copies concisely and simply. There is a bonus chapter on electronic editing using Track Changes in MS Word.
I can honestly say that I learned a lot from this book. The section on how to make a resume specifically for proofreading jobs is a very useful part of the book. The book also contains three proofreading tests along with their key that you can use to test your skills.
I am highly impressed at how the author covered many parts of a freelance proofreading career in detail despite the short length of the book. If you are even slightly considering freelancing as a proofreader, this book can be your guide. If you already are a proofreader, you can still pick up this book to get additional tips.
