My Rating: 2 stars

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

As If It Was Yesterday by Henrike G. Forschler is the love story of Jonathan and Saphhire. It is told over a period of many years. It is about two people who are away from each other but are constantly trying to find their way back .

The book is written in an epistolary format. It starts with text messages between Jonathan and Sapphire. Right from the start, I wasn’t a fan of the writing. The dialogue seemed melodramatic and insane. It was too corny for me and not at all cute or sweet. The writing is one of the most important parts of a book for me and this one just wasn’t my thing.

I was constantly hoping that the book would get better. There were also shifts between the timeline. They were well done and didn’t feel confusing. However, it didn’t seem like the plot was going anywhere. There was also nothing interesting to know about the characters or their backstory.

About halfway through, my interest picked up. I didn’t think I would finish the book but I wanted to know the ending. I liked that it was fast-past and easy to get through despite the writing. It also helped that I somehow  started to root for the characters. Overall, I’ll say that the story was good enough to keep my attention but not good enough for me to like it.
