My Review
Happy Here and Now is an easy-to-read, crisp, and engaging book on how to live a happier life. One thing I love about reading such books is that I can feel my mindset and attitude shift positively even as I’m reading them.
In the book, the author tells exactly how to cultivate a positive mindset and why one should do it. He asks the readers to do various practices such as being grateful for everything, even the bad things in your life. I liked how he firmly stated why we should do each activity that he writes about, giving examples from his personal life, and leaving no room for us to argue.
The author also offers great perspectives and tips to communicate well with the people in our lives. We often have habits that we’re not aware of. For example: not bring an active listener, being passive-aggressive, etc. Some of these could be ruining our relationships. Awareness of your destructive habits is a very important step that this book can help you take.
The book has a “Living It” section after every chapter which was a great addition as it allows the reader to pause from reading the book and take action. A lot of us make the mistake of simply reading self-improvement books and never taking immediate action or applying the learnings in our life or even reflecting on them. I’m glad the author recognized the need for his readers to pause in between and structured his book in such a way.
A lot of the things in this book were things that I already knew and had read in similar books. Nevertheless, this book was a good reminder of those things and allowed me to shift my mindset. Also, the author’s anecdotal writing style kept me engaged.
This is a book that more than anything, asks you to believe—believe in this life and believe in yourself. If one follows the things mentioned in this book, it would truly make their lives richer.
