Underrated Book Recommendations

Underrated Books

Hey everyone!

So a few weeks ago, I wrote a post called Introducing A New Segment For Underrated Books. In it, I explained something new I wanted to do on this blog. Basically, what I wrote was:

Every month I will read one or two books that fall into one or more of these categories.

-A book published more than two years ago.

– A book I have never seen anyone talk/write about or recommend. Books that don’t have a lot of online presence.

– A book with less than 500 ratings on Goodreads.

Before I started searching for books that fit into these prompts, I wanted to write a post about books that I have read in the past which I feel are underrated. This post is a list of books like that.

I love all of these books and I highly recommend them.

1. Waiting For Regina by Curtis W. Jackson

Waiting for Regina

Waiting For Regina follows the story of a young girl called Mispha, a dark girl from a Haitian-Jamaican black family, and her friend Regina from the time they are in high school to adulthood. It is described as a coming-of-age story and is built around the theme of racism.

This was a very sad but heartwarming book. The simple message was to stop discriminating. It is a short read and I recommend it to everyone looking for a book dealing with racism.

2. Soul of a Wanderer by Jayasekaran Pillai

Soul of a Wanderer

This is a collection of short stories containing the author’s experiences in various parts of India. This is a book that not only takes us on a tour of various places in India but also tells us a lot about humanity. The book includes pictures and short chapters. The stories are touching and all of them give an important message.

3. Bloodwalker by L.X Cain

Bloodwalker

The reason I recommend this book is that you can rarely find an amazing paranormal stand-alone book. I found the plot very intriguing- Children are being kidnapped by a clown in Budapest, Hungary and a security chief of a circus is trying to catch him. Meanwhile, a young girl arrives in the city. She belongs to the Skomori clan which consists of bloodwalkers. Read this book if you’re looking for an exciting book.

4. What are you reading? by Bragadeesh Prasanna

What are you reading?

This short story should be read by all avid readers and aspiring authors. It addresses the importance of reading for a writer. It addresses the huge amount of meaningless works of writings today and how it affects us. This is an honest and well-written short story. that I highly recommend.

5. Constant Guests by Patricia Nedelea

Constant Guests

This book is the perfect example of a book with a complex plot that is well-written. It is a mixture of historical fiction, mystery, and fantasy. It took me a while to read it and some parts got boring with too much information. However, my mind was blown by the time I was done reading it.

That’s it for today! I will be posting the second part of this list very soon. Hope you all enjoyed this post

  1. I would like to add End of the World News by Anthony Burgess. That’s right, Anthony Burgess, the author of A Clockwork Orange. Burgess was only known for his book A Clockwork Orange, but the fact of the matter is that he was a prolific author, writing tons of books. End of the World News is a bizarre book, dealing partly in a fictional biography of Sigmud Freud, a musical about Trotsky, and an apocalypse from outer space that will end the earth. Strangely, he makes it all work.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendations. I am going to have to check out Bloodwalkers. That book sounds intriguing.

  2. My reads don’t usually qualify as underrated but I am working on a Top Ten Tuesday post that lists a few I don’t think get the love they deserve but I usually think it’s because I don’t spend enough time in the right places in the internet because it can’t be just me that’s realised it’s good, you know?

  3. Great idea for a post! One book I had the luck of reviewing recently was the Fat Lady’s Low Sad Song. It’s indie published but took me by total surprise! I loved it. I’m putting the Constant Guests and Blood Walkers on my to read list!

  4. This is an awesome idea for a post. I keep telling myself I’m going to read more underrated books but for some reason it never really happens.

  5. These are all new to me! I could not read Bloodwalker. the cover gave me a mini freak out, then I saw the word ‘clowns’ and I knew I could never read it. Clowns are high on my list of fears.

  6. Super idea Tavleen, I started a similar kind of initiative to keep the underrated books details in excel. and shared with others… But down the line, I completely forgot it.. 🙂
Thanks for reminding me of that little project of mine. Will be great, if you can add these on those list as well.

  7. Love the idea! I’m going to steal it, cos I steal like an artist 😉 💕 You already know my favourite underrated books…A Tale for the time being and Love Virtually. Read them!!!!
