Book Beginnings and The Friday 56 #2: Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Hi guys! Today, I’m gonna do a combined post for both of these memes. I had the whole day to do these but as it often happens during vacations, I didn’t know that it was Friday!

Anyways, the book I’ve chosen for this week is:

Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

This book has great reviews and i finally decided to read it. I’m about 30% through and really enjoying it so far.

Here’s the Goodreads synopsis:

Amy Curry is not looking forward to her summer. Her mother decided to move across the country and now it’s Amy’s responsibility to get their car from California to Connecticut. The only problem is, since her father died in a car accident, she isn’t ready to get behind the wheel. Enter Roger. An old family friend, he also has to make the cross-country trip – and has plenty of baggage of his own. The road home may be unfamiliar – especially with their friendship venturing into uncharted territory – but together, Amy and Roger will figure out how to map their way.

Book Beginnings is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Rose City Reader. To participate, you just have to post the first sentence of the book you are reading and write your thoughts about it.

Eureka [I have found it] —California state motto

I sat on the front steps of my house and watched the beige Subaru station wagon swing too quickly around the cul-de-sac. This was a rookie mistake, one made by countless FedEx guys. There were only three houses on Raven Crescent, and most people had reached the end before they’d realized it.”

The Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. To participate, you just have to grab a book, turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader and post a sentence or a few from it.

“She gave me back my change and scooped our snacks into a plastic bag. “But you’ve got miles and miles of road ahead of you with not much there.” She handed me the bag across the counter. “Welcome to the Loneliest Road in America.”
