My Classics TBR

A major part of the books I own are classics, and a huge portion of that part is unread.

I say that classical literature is one my favorite genres. That is mainly because I have enjoyed almost every classic I have read so far. I love the long stories, the complex plots and the beautiful writing. However, I cant deny the fact that classics take much more time and effort to read than other books. Because of this, I always lag behind on reading them.

Today I want to share with you all some classic books that are sitting on my shelf unread.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

This beautiful Scholastic edition of Dracula does not deserve to stay unread on my shelf.  It is a Gothic horror novel and was published in 1897. I don’t read horror books often but I enjoy them whenever I do read them. More reason for me to pick it up soon.

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

My second Jane Austen book. It took me a long time to read Pride and Prejudice and because of that, I am not in a hurry to pick this up. Still, it has been sitting on my shelf for more than 2 years and I really want to read it by the end of this year.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger

This is a book that I just bought last month. It follows the story of teenager Holden Caulfield. Its been a while since I read a coming-of-age story so I am more likely to read this book sooner rather than later.

Untouchable by Mulk Raj Anand

I read this author’s other book Coolie ages ago but I remember really liking it. Untouchable seems like a very enlightening and good read. It is also quite short so I’m likely to pick it up soon.

The Ramayana by R.K Narayan

The great Indian epic retold by R.K Narayana. I’m really intrigued by this book and looking forward to reading it.

The Sherlock Holmes series by Arthur Conan Doyle

LRM_EXPORT_20170525_175243

I love the fact that I own this complete series in this bind up but I would love it even more if I actually read all of it. I have read 4 out of 9 books in the Sherlock Holmes series. I’m huge fan of the detective and his partner and I really want to finish this series soon.

Five plays by Shakespeare

These are Julius Caesar, Comedy of Errors, Two Gentlemen of Verona, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth. It is taking me ages to read The Merchant of Venice so I don’t know how long it will take me to read all of these. Still, I’m hoping to slowly make my way through these.

Some re-reads

I have already read these but due to one reason or the other I want to read them again. Hence, I am including them in this list.

Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome

LRM_EXPORT_20170525_175544

I read this book in 9th grade for school and I read it the night before my test. So basically, I skimmed through a lot of it and read it really fast. I would like to read it again to actually enjoy the story this time and form an opinion on it.

Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Gone with the Wind is one of the best stories I have ever read. I read it years ago and fell in love with it instantly. Its a huge book but I still want to re-read it atleast once.

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

This book is one of my favorite classics. I have already read it twice but it was a long time ago and I have the urge to read it again.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

Another classic story I love. I think I read this book about 4 years ago. Since then I haven’t completely read it again nor have I watched any adaptations of it. I want to do both very soon.

That’s  it. Let me know down below some of your favorite classics and if you have read any of these. Also, suggest me some good classics book-to-screen adaptations. 🙂

    1. I am a Shakespeare fan. I have also read a few others like Anne Frank, Gone with the wind and Sherlock Holmes . This is a pretty list. Do let me know how you feel about The Catcher in the Rye

  1. I’ve racked my brains, and in all honesty, I really haven’t read many classics! 1984, Little Women (not sure if I actually finished it!), Robinson Crusoe are the only ones I can think of.

Dracula and Catcher in the Rye definitely interest me.

  2. Pride and prejudice, sense and sensibility are some of my favourites. Plus Emma, tale of two cities are on my tbr.
    Nice blog 😊
Do check out my first post related to books 😊.
    I have recently started ❤

  3. Ooh I love all the Sherlock Holmes stories and Gone with the Wind! A good book to movie classic IMO is Emma (the 1996 version with Gwyneth Paltrow).

  4. Gone with the Wind is the best book I’ve ever read!! 🙂 I LOVE Sense & Sensibility. If you aren’t motivated, try the Emma Thompson adaptation. It’s LOVELY. Also, for books, you might like Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor, and Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain. 🙂

By the way, Margaret Mitchell played Old Gibbo in The Merchant of Venice when she was a teenager. She apparently stole the show from the leads. 😉

    1. I know, right? I love Gone with the Wind💕💕 I’ll try that adaptation!! Thanks for the other recs.
Wow, I had no idea about that fact of Margaret Mitchell. Thanks for sharing! I can only imagine how sassy and creative she must’ve been. Maybe even a bit like Scarlett😁

      1. She was actually far more like Rhett, with some Melanie thrown in. Extremely shrewd, gentle-hearted, and FAST with a comeback. I:-)
