Top 10 Tuesday #3: Books I Picked Up On A Whim

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. This week’s topic is Ten Books I Picked Up On A Whim.
I’ve always found that the books i read knowing nothing about or pick up just after hearing about them turn out to be great reads. Here’s my list:

1. Room by Emma Donoghue

I decided to read this book after hearing about it from the booktuber Ariel Bisset in one of her videos. The plot sounded really interesting but what immediately drew me to this book was the fact that its audiobook was narrated by a five-year old. I was intrigued and read the book the next day, and i’m really glad i did as it turned to be a very memorable read.

2. Coraline by Neil Gaiman

I had heard nothing but great things about Neil Gaiman and his writing, so i really wanted to try his work. Coraline seemed like a good place to start and i was also interested by the fact that Neil Gaiman himself narrated his audiobooks

3. Blankets by Craig Thompson

The only thing i knew before reading this book was that it was a graphic novel and it was quite long. I read it in one sitting and really enjoyed it.

4. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

I read this book years ago before i found Goodreads or any other place to get recommendations. I was just looking my next read and found this book in my school library. I knew it was popular so i decided to read it. It was an okay read and i actually want to re-read sometime in the nearby future.

5. Define Normal by Julie Anne Peters

I read this book in 2015 for the challenge “Read a book published in the year you were born”. I was having a hard time finding a book for this. I found this book and decided to read it as it was YA and seemed like something i would like. I’m glad i did as i really liked it and thought it was a good book that raised the question about who gets to decides what’s “normal” and what’s not.

6. A Dog’s Life: The Autobiography of a Stray by Ann M Martin

I saw this book being recommended in the newspaper. I was instantly perked up when i saw that its been written in the point-of-view of a dog. Its a really sweet book on the life of a street dog and i really loved reading it.

7. Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

I wanted to read a graphic novel and this one had great reviews. That’s pretty much the only reason as to why i read it. I knew nothing about the plot and it was different than what i usually read. The artwork was good and i really enjoyed it!

8. Rose Madder by Stephen King

I bought this book used and very cheap while i was shopping one day. I was looking through the used books of a bookstore and quickly picked this when i saw that its  written by Stephen King. I knew nothing about this book except its author. I haven’t finished this yet but i’m really glad i bought this as its really good so far!

9. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

This book was very hyped last year. The only thing i knew about this was that its a psychological thriller. I had never read anything from that genre. I was interested to try this so i bought it 🙂

10. The Bronze Horseman by Paulina Simmons

I bought this book at the same time i bought The Girl on the Train. I didn’t know anything about about the plot except that its Historical Fiction and a great love story. That seemed completely like my thing so i was almost jumping with excitement when i found this!

Have you read any of these books? What are some of the books you picked up on a whim? Let me know down below.

  1. Room is definitely memorable. I can’t remember how I heard about that book, but I listened to it on audio many years ago. I still need to see the movie. Have you seen it?

  2. You picked up some awesome books on a whim.I have very recently started reading graphic novels and am desperate for more recommendations – I have read Nimona. I had completely forgot about Blankets, but will definitely be ordering that one asap. Great list 🙂 You can check out my post here.

  3. I picked up Room because I watched and LOVED the movie, but I still need to read it! I also picked up The Girl On A Train, and I LOVED IT! Can’t wait to watch the movie! Great Top Ten 😀
