Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. This week’s topic is “Ten Books Set Outside The US”
Hello everyone! As it turns out, there is a fair number of books I’ve read that are set outside the US, especially since I do not live in the US 😛
Books Set In India
Revolution 2020 by Chetan Bhagat
Chetan Bhagat is a popular Indian author. I’m not a big of his books but I really like this one. Revolution 2020 is a story of three youngsters and their struggles with love, corruption and success.
Coolie by Mulk Raj Anand
The book revolves around a 14-year-old boy, Munoo, and his struggles with poverty and exploitation throughout his life. The book also features the British rule in India and India’s caste system.
My Journey by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam
A great book featuring stories from A.P.J Abdul Kalam’s life.
The Code of Manavas: Beyond The Realm by Arpit Bakshi
A sci-fi book set in a futuristic world mixed with Indian mythology.
Books by Khaled Hosseini- Set In Afganistan
These are wonderful books with aspects of war, family, friendship and love.
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
Set In Amsterdam
An account of a 13 year old girl when she was in hiding with her family during World War 11
Books Set In The UK
Sherlock Holmes series by Arthur Conan Doyle (Goodreads link)
Girls series by Jacqueline Wilson (Goodreads link)
The Confessions of Georgia Nicolson by Louise Rennison (Goodreads link)
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho – Set In Egypt
A book about a shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids.
Hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know your thoughts below.
I’ve wanted to read The Alchemist and The Kite Runner for a long time now. Great list! I wonder why I have never thought of including Sherlock Holmes on my list!
Haha I forgot many books too! You should definitely give The Kite Runner a try!
Sure!
Cool list of books! I read Anne Frank’s diary forever ago now.
Here’s a link to my TTT post for this week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2016/07/top-ten-tuesday-ten-books-set-outside-us.html
Thanks!
I do not live in the US either! Which is precisely why I thought there’s a big loophole in this week’s theme, isn’t it? We could just put 10 books written by our local authors 😛 but nope, we probably shouldn’t. I like The Kite Runner but haven’t had the chance to read the other books by the same author. Are they great??
Oh yes, they’re fantastic – A Thousand Splendid Suns and And The Mountains Echoed. You should definitely try them! The Kite Runner is still my favorite though. Anyways, thanks for commenting 🙂
Ahh I might add them to my already endless list of TBR :’)
I didn’t think of including Chetan Bhagat! I also enjoyed the Louise Rennison series 😀
I really liked Revolution 2020 so I included him 🙂 I’ve only read the first book in the Georgia Nicolson series but looking forward to the others. Thanks for commenting 🙂
The Confessions of Georgia Nicholson books and the Girls series make me think of my pre-teen years, I loved those books. I definitely need to try one of Khaled Hosseini’s books, everyone raves about them but they haven’t really pinged on my radar.
My TTT.
Give The Kite Runner a try when you get a chance! Thanks for commenting 🙂
I have A Thousand Splendid Suns on my list too. His books are amazing. I really liked The Alchemist. My TTT
Glad you like it!
Great list. I have the three books by Khaled Hosseini on my list too.I have only read one book partially set in India, Eat, Pray, Love. I have Shantarama on my TBR though. Alchemist was a great read.

Love your list! I haven’t read many books from India, Afghanistan, or Egypt, and I really should do something about that.
Thank you! Yes, give them a try!
I love to read books set in foreign countries, and I particularly like books set in India, such at Shanataram and A Fine Balance. Also, I think The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are amazing.
Agreed! Thanks for commenting:)
Oooh if The Alchemist is set in Egypt I MUST read it! 😀
Sure, give it a try!
Georgia Nicholson! She used to be my guilty pleasure! Great list.

I think I have only read some of Ann Frank in school!! I need to get on the ball over here!
Haha glad if you got some recommendations from here:)
The only ones of these I’ve read are Jacqueline Wilson’s Girls books but I really liked them as a younger teen.

The Diary of A Young Girl, is one of my favorites! I don’t know why I didn’t think to put it on my top ten! Everyone should read it at least ONCE in their life! Great Top Ten! 😀

I agree, its one of my favorite books too! Thanks!
Ohh such a good list! I love this week’s topic it literally travels you around the world. Have a great week!
You too!
Great list! I remember reading The Kite Runner and thinking it was amazing. I’m not sure I’ve read And the Mountains Echoed yet, but I’m sure it’s in my TBR pile somewhere, so thanks for reminding me of the book, I really must get around to reading it 🙂
Surely try it! Its an amazing book
This is a great list – Anne Frank – such a deeply sad story. And, A Thousand Splendid Suns – absolutely brilliant – very sad, but brilliant.
Lynn 😀
Very true 🙂
I’ve always been fascinated by Anne Frank and her story, but I don’t think I’ve ever read a book about her. Perhaps someday (*adds to that ever-growing TBR*). Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.
If you ever do, this is a great one! You’re welcome!
I haven’t read anything from your list, but I’m super excited for The Diary of a Young Girl and the Sherlock Holmes s. – actually, I’m really ashamed I haven’t read these two so far.
Wonderful list!! 😀
Thank you! That’s okay! Its never too late to read a book and there are always so many to read.
